Dallas Fire-Rescue confirmed a 12-year-old boy and two 8-year-old girls were hit, all three were taken to Children's Medical Center.

Three children were hit by a vehicle in Dallas Thursday afternoon, according to Dallas ISD.

Several neighbors at a nearby apartment complex witnessed the crash.

They say the mother and children were going home through the school zone.

"Everybody who stays over here, even in the other apartments, we all crossed the street to go help the mom," said a neighbor. "She was screaming hectically. Several moms had to grab her and tell her, 'It's going to be ok. Just pray. Just pray.' But she was not hearing it. She was just screaming."

Dallas Police said the preliminary investigation shows the crash was an accident.

For now, the driver is not facing charges.

"Of course, we're in the preliminary stages, but at this time it does not appear that there was speeding involved," said Assistant Chief Catrina Shead.

Police said the driver remained on the scene immediately after the crash. NBC 5 was there as officers allowed him to later leave with a family member.

"Your heart just goes out on both sides, because he's old. He's got a handicap sticker on his truck. And then you've got a mom and kids. It's just sad all the way around," said Andrea Williams.

Williams witnessed the aftermath of the crash. She said she drove up as first responders tried to resuscitate one of the children.

"The only thing you can do is pray and just ask God to keep our children covered," she said.
